Along with a group of neighbors in our area we experience serious flooding of our property (7 floods in the past 14 years). The township has not done anything to help us. The state has helped as much as the town, and the federal gov't (FEMA) we were told had a grant program to help people that were in our situation and FEMA told us NOTHING DOING. The worst part is our neighborhood will flood again, and then again, and there really is no logical way out. We can not sell because each time we flood the property values sink further and further, and many of the familes that are affected have lived here for many years. My wife in particular has lived in this neighborhood and in this house her whole life (50+ years). Our only option is to make our home in essence flood-proof. Raising the buildings up onto higher foundations will bring us up above the 100-year flood level. The cost per home is between 120K and 150K, and the longer we are forced to wait before we are able to do this the higher the price will go. So as a church in the local neighborhood and a structure that is also affected by these natural disasters repeatedly, we are seeeking to secure funding for this project for us and our neighbors so that we can live a normalized life. Then we would not have to evacuate our properties due to this flooding issue, or pull out the carpets or replace hardwood flooring on our first floor after each and every event as well as replacing sheetrock, etc., that has been saturated from the bottom up due to flood waters.

We are hoping to be able to make cash grants, disburseable for the various house raising projects in this neighborhood as well as others that have experienced the same type of losses. We are looking for an architect, possibly a contractor who would help us with the raising of the houses, and funding to accomplish the project.
