University Earth will be doing aquaponics...EBS Aquaponics: Using these eco/non-toxic materials we have designed the Aquaponic Systems to be the most efficient with labor, energy, water, and have the highest yields possible by going vertical and maximizing the space available. Also, they are very aesthetically pleasing, with climbing green columns inside a beautiful dome.
The systems consist of vertical growing columns for everything except for tomatoes, root vegetables, and other larger crops which use media beds. The greenhouse domes have polycarbonate panels, star or lotus shaped pots (growing containers), piping, fish tank, sump tank, breeder tank and de-gasser tank. We recommend stacking on as many other functions as possible to maximize the use of the system.
You can add worm bins, methane digester, etc. You can also make your own fish food by having a black fly larvae trap, a mosquito zapper over the tank, and growing duckweed, algaes, mushrooms, etc. Other parts include: dissolved oxygen meter, water pump, and air pump. The water temperature has to be regulated depending on where you live and what type of fish you are raising. The water re-circulates and only requires a small amount of water to be replaced from evaporation. The system is self-cleansing, so you do not have to empty and clean the system every 10 days like with hydroponics.
The fish are the farmers, so the labor is much less than traditional farming methods..and there's no weeding. In addition, the fish poop creates a bacteria that feeds the plants and the plants are VERY happy! This is apparent by the quick growth of the plants, their health, their strength, and most importantly...their delicious taste:)
We have many size options for the aquaponic systems starting with just 1 vertical column and small fish tank for an apartment window, balcony, or kitchen unit to dome greenhouses that you can see in the Aquaponic Catalog. We also have dome hoop houses for very large commercial operations of 1+ acres. The systems are scalable and you can choose how many vertical columns or media beds you want depending on what you want to grow and how you choose to use the space. The production numbers and profitability are substantially higher than any other type of farming! For more info check out www.ecobuiltsystems.com
