Young Wings with Vision & Royalty Aviation, SC
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
As the U.S. government began to address the forecasted shortage of pilots, I, Yolanda Kaufman, was already building an aviation training program in Chicago. I founded Young Wings with Vision, (“Young Wings”) which is now prepared to file to become a nonprofit organization. Young Wings‘ purpose is to provide formal aviation training to students. Soon after, I formed Royalty Aviation, SC (“Royalty”) to serve as a flight school for Young Wings students, and provide flight training, airplane sales and rentals, and other aviation related services to the general public. Together, Young Wings and Royalty will form an aviation training campus at the Lansing Municipal Airport in Lansing, Illinois. Young Wings is seeking $7 million to build the campus on the apron of the Lansing Airport – $5 million to finance construction of the hangar, classrooms and offices space, $2 million for operating expenses.
Our organization’s goal is to train the next generation of pilots, mechanics and aviation personnel through a unique feeder program. It is the first of its kind in Illinois that offers aviation training to middle school, high school and college students. Our program offers three aviation career tracks to college students:
1.) Flight Management (Private Pilot’s License) CFI, CFII, MEI.
2.) Aviation Management (Non-flying Management and Ground Support Careers.
3.) Aviation Maintenance (Power Plant and Airframe Technician) A&P.
We believe Young Wing’s program will give incentives to students to stay in school, perform well academically, and remain interested in and committed to the aviation industry. We will provide a steady flow of uniquely qualified individuals to the aviation and aerospace industry. We designed a new, comprehensive curriculum and learning experience. The middle and high school curriculum will satisfy the federal mandate for development of STEM programs, and all college-level courses will be approved by the Illinois College Curriculum Board. Coursework will be complemented with FAA-certified training programs and multimedia technology.
In addition to Young Wings being a unique feeder program, we will bring aviation education to a region where students historically have not had the exposure to aviation education and thus to aviation careers designed to train college-ready and career-focused students. Students will utilize Diamond simulators and fly Diamond aircraft. Students will complete an internship in the aviation industry in order to explore careers and secure employment post-graduation. Foundational training is included to round out the curriculum.
After-school Program is for middle school students 6th-8th grade and 9th-10th grade high school students. Students will participate in the after-school and summer programs, whereby they will experience a state approved and FAA certified aviation education through activity-based learning and a curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Dual Enrollment Program is designed for high school students. 10th grade students must take the college placement exam in order to enroll in the dual enrollment program in 11th and 12th grade. The program is state approved and FAA certified aviation education through activity-based learning and a curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Students will receive college credits for the dual enrollment program.
Students can transfer credits to Prairie State College towards an Associate Degree or Advanced Certificate.
Aviation career tracks at PSC:
College Program: (Young Wings) has partnered with Prairie State College to provide students with college credits towards an associate degree in Aviation Technology. Students can receive their pilot’s license by the end of their freshman year and their instrument rating in the second year, which would qualify them to work as a pilot for a private, single-engine aircraft. Governors State University will accept transfer students from Prairie State College into their Dual Degree program where they can obtain a bachelor’s degree in Advanced Flight Training, Aviation Management, or Aviation Investigation.
Foundational Training: Several courses will be interwoven into the above-mentioned programs such as money management, lifestyle training, health and fitness, and professional development. These courses will arm students with fundamental skills and values they need to be successful.
Once Royalty is fully operational, it will finance some of Young Wings programming and operations. Royalty will generate revenue through aircraft sales and leasing, membership fees, merchandise sales at the pilot shop, flight training and re-certification fees, and air charter services. Royalty will attract existing and new customers at Lansing Municipal Airport, which currently registers over 75,000 operations annually. The Airport is a designated reliever and attractive alternative for corporate and private aircraft flying into the Chicago-land region.
Today our team is small; our members are noble, dedicated, and passionately committed trustees who possess a combined experience who believe that, within our communities there is unmined gold deep in the hearts of our young people. Young Wings is designed to empower our youth to be that mined gold by preparing them to lead an independent lifestyle, which will create vast opportunities for ownership and generational wealth as well as giveing them avenues for academic, professional, and personal growth while meeting the needs of the aviation and aerospace industries.
We need the support of generous people who believe as we do in the empowerment of our next generation of Youth.
